Alternative oil filter for a rev 3 turbo

Post by Martin F »

I noticed when fitting the sensors for my new gauges that the standard oil filter is very narrow for the sandwich plate, the seal sits right on the edge.
I went and bought a thicker one but it is now too wide (hits the sump) and won't fit.
To save me experimenting and wasting any more money can anybody direct me to an oil filter that will be up to the job... cheers :thumleft:

I've got an HKS oil filter on mine and had no issues (I use a sandwich plate too)

I've just ordered a load of stuff from Japan and stuck this on the order cause it's only an extra few quid

obviously no idea whether that would solve your problems though.

you could get the proper fittings for the filter housing on the block and ditch the sandwich plate? or measure the sandwich plate then find a 3/4 x 16 filter that will fit?

Ditch the sandwich plate!

On the gen3 3s-gte and 3s-ge there are threaded ports in the oil pan on the high pressure line immediately after the oil filter. They'll essentually give the same reading as the sandwich plate, but without the faff or extra seals etc and allow the stock filter (which is still the one I trust most) to mate up to the sump exactly as Toyota intended. (Or, in my case, allows for a thermostatic sandwich plate for my oil cooler)

Three 3/8 BSP ports available (although some may interfere with the aircon belt) with the added bonus that fitting does not involve dropping the oil (unlike the sump location) nor potential leaks from sandwich plate seals. Just get some adaptors and fit using PTFE tape :thumleft:

Mahle filter is good and about 1/3rd the price of the HKS one, but then the HKS one is hot pink.
