idle problem icv adjustment!! URGENT!

Post by caldridge7 »

hey guys recently made a thread about an idle problem, basically id start the car and it would die straight away....i put on my old idle control valve and it worked but now it goes to 2300 rpm and hunts around there...

i did move the plate that has to small screws at the bottom of the icv with a plastic circle saying (8) and i believe i messed with the adjustment!

can someone please tell me or show me where these screws and plate are supposed to sit on a mr2 mk2 rev UK model.!

regards

I just now googled mr2 idle control valve and the first hit was a YouTube video of some guy messing with his. Now it doesn't show where it should be stock but it shows how to bench test and how moving the bottom plate effects the gate. So for you, you'll need to turn it clockwise some. Maybe trial and error to get it bang on. Whilst you are at it set your tips.

I think it's probably best to set the tps first to make sure the ecu knows where the throttle is before you try playing with the ICV.

It's easier to adjust the ICV when the throttle body is off by applying 12v to the correct terminals. That way you can make sure that it fully opens as well as closes to a narrow slit.

I also found you can make a slight adjustment at the magnetic switch part of the ICV, as there is a little slack there allowing a small movement. But thats pretty marginal.

As you have a rev 2 there's also a screw you can adjust on the front of the throttle body that may also help. But I've had mixed results with that, so I'd try that last.

By the way, did you check the butterfly on the throttle body when you had it apart to make sure it fully closes and isn't badly worn and therefore allowing air to pass when closed. Just a thought, as that was a problem I had at one time, if you held it up to the light daylight was still coming through all around it.

Did you watch the video?
Also when you get the new tb you should still check the tps is set correctly. The procedure is simples with a meter and outlined in the bgb.

I'd second that. I wouldn't rely on the TPS being set correctly. It's really easy to check and adjust if needed.
