Help regarding car covers

Post by 2barGee »

I'm after some advice with car covers for the MR2.

I try not to drive it around during winter so I'm after a decent car cover. The car is parked up outside all year.

What are peoples thoughts on them? More hassle then there worth? Paint rubbing etc?

Cheers Dan

I'm in same boat car on drive all year round ,only use it in good weather.
Body shop I use recommend not covering it as moisture can get trap under
The cover and cause more problems.ive seen this happen with friends
Vw r32 put bonnet bra on for style took it off year later and found big rust
Hole, better to have air moving round the car, just my opinion

Tried using a car cover last year. Got too windy and kept pulling it off. Gave up in the end.

As long as you buy a decent cover it should help to protect the paint, but unless the car is nice and clean when the cover is fitted then it'll blow around and scratch grit etc. into the paint. I was going to buy one last year, ended up building a car port instead as I had a bit of space - these look to be the best for the money (but it's still a lot IMO lol)

I bought one of the cheap waterproof 'breathable' covers off ebay last year, it was around 20 quid and fit quite well, I use 2 bungee cords one across the bonnet attached behind the 2 front tires and one on the rear, this keeps it in place and keeps the car dry, I have not had any problems with moisture underneath it just make sure to let your car cool down to the outside temperature before you throw your cover on.

Yep, i also use the cheapo ones off amazon/ebay, but I renew them about every couple of years because they eventually become absorbent.

Buy the small size, the trick to keeping them on is you put it on, get it located correctly, then tuck the site under the doors and close the door on the cover. you don't need to go rooting around under the car with a bungee cord - its held in place by being tucked into the doors.

Try and keep them off the ground or it becomes a source of grit.

I have a monsoon stormforce cover, it is excellent, a bit prices but well worth the money in my eyes, fully fitted with wing mirror pockets, stays firmly on the car in high winds even without the underbody straps on that come with the cover. Couldn't recommend it higher

I hope the rust hole put him off the `style` for good!
