Bonnet Aero Catches

Post by J-1 »

Has anyone installed these on their bonnet?

If so, can you post pics of them on the car, and a pic of the underside of the bonnet?

Cheers

Here's my Border bonnet with locking aerocatch pins:

I had a look, but I don't have any photos from the underside.

I fitted mine slightly higher up, just so that the fixing bolts could go through a couple of factory holes under the plastic shroud. Cutting out for the aerocatches can take a while - I made a template and then stuck a square of paper onto the bonnet with masking tape, traced around the template onto the paper and jigsawed/drilled out the shape of the catch (the paper is to prevent jigsaw from scratching the bonnet).

You're best to mount the fixing bolts and then put a dab of tip-ex or similar on the ends, then gently lower the bonnet onto them - leaving a corresponding splodge so you know where the catches need to placed :thumleft:

I'll get a pic of the underside tomorrow but it's the same as Craig's posted really. Here's an outside photo, not the best angle but you get the idea!

Looking good there mate!

Mine are where they are, as the pins are mounted to the stock radiator brackets. :thumleft:

Also buy proper aerocatches from like demon tweaks or something. I bought some from ebay before and they started falling apart relatively quickly with both levers snapping in the end.

Couple of better pics:

Wouldn't recommend the countersunk fixing bolts which come with the aerocatches either - they're black mild steel (to blend in with the plastic) but then turned a nice orange rust colour after 3 days  Get yourself some stainless bolts instead as they're fiddly to fit :thumleft:

Interesting that mate. I've had no problems with both sets of genuine aerocatches I've had, regarding rusty bolts.

Tbh I don't know where the aerocatches came from (probably Ebay). They were supplied brand new with the used carbon bonnet when I picked it up last year. They feel solid enough though, no rattling or broken pieces yet
