What components are shared with the Horn circuit?

Post by Mr2Owner »

The horn on my Mr2 has stopped working and want to investigate it tomorrow. Just wondering are there other components that share this circuit, I think the hazzards do. Do the interior lights share it too can anyone confirm as they stopped working too and am not sure if its related to the horn.

Hazards and horn share a fuse (No. 12 in engine bay box)
Dome light fuse is No.14

I removed the 2 horns from the car, they are a single wire setup so I assume they earth through their brackets or mounting bolt.

With the horns removed when I put 2 jumper wires on them to test them directly off a car battery, I put the pin to the positive and the bracket to the negative of the battery, should they beep when testing like this?

Will the negative of a battery earth them, or do they have to be earthed to the chassis of the car?

This current thread on the subject may be of help http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/forums/41/164427.html

I've just had a pair of these fitted on mine, they sound a LOT louder and deeper than the standard horns.

Thanks for the link, the 2 of mine were dead, I fitted a new single unit today. I took the bumper off and removed the air con rad which was literally disintegrated and I cut off a lot of its hoses under the car. I removed and painted the bumper support bar whilst in there. All back together now, the little bolts holding on the tiny trim pieces around the lights of the bumper were the worst of it.

You fairly paid for them dual horns, I just got a basic one for €14
