New to forum + advice on where to buy

Hi All.

New to the forum here and looking for some advice really.

I have been looking around for a while now for a more exciting second car and was looking at either a Classic Impreza or an MR2 Turbo.

I've since settled on an MR2 Turbo and have been looking around the usual places such as eBay, Auto Trader (rubbish), Gumtree, PistonHeads and of course here but there doesn't seem to many listed anywhere in the southern third of England. I'm in London.

I'm looking for either a rev 2 or rev 3 but not looking for extremely modded / mint cars and the price that goes with them. The usual mods are fine though of course.

Anyway, just wondering if I'm missing any obvious places to look and also just saying hi!

Just keep looking on here, ebay, pistonheads etc. Good ones are starting to get harder to fine especially standard ones.
Expect to look for a few months before you see what your after dont rush into it.
If you have a 5k budget you could go for a fresh import otherwise if you keep looking id expect a clean rev 3 to set you back about 3k.

Yeah I've seen the nice Rev 3 on here at 3k but it's just so far away up in Scotland.

What should you expect to pay for a Rev 2 would you think?

Obviously it all depends on condition but say standard condition.

i'd look on ebay at cars that have been bid on to find the true price . these cars are old now so its getting like a classic market. a rev 1 might be a better car than a rev 5 if its been looked after. owners club cars are overpriced cause they love them. get one with no rust cause everything else can be replaced.

Condition is everything. I paid £3,000 for a rust free low mileage rev 2 turbo about 18months ago.

I'd been looking off and on for around 6months and then saw one privately advertised on www.classicandsportscar.com. Keep looking something will turn up. Just be prepared to wait for the right one. Good luck.

There is a black rev 2 turbo on ebay in cambridge with some damage to the n/s/f corner. £1600
Might be worth a look as other than this it looks like a good car. Bumpers and wings are cheap and plentiful, just have a look at the chassis underneath the front on that side to make sure it is still straight.

If i had the spare cash at the mo i'd be down there with my overalls, jack and a wedge of cash

Yeah I've seen that one and was going to go see it last week but it failed its MOT which I'd have been happy to sort out myself if I'd have been able to get it here. Also it wouldn't have been able to go on a test drive as it's not road legal.

It's not far away at all. The UK is not a big country…

There's not many 'good' SW's left, travelling from one end of the country to the other for the right car can save a lot of wallet ache that may be caused by buying a car for it's convenient for sale location!

Nice looking rev2. Could be be worth a visit, but you need to factor in possible issues causing the engine management light to come on from time to time. Leaking capacitors in the ecu is just one of many possible causes, but the warning light needs investigation by checking the diagnostics port for stored faults, and shouldn't be ignored just because it's intermittent.

Prices are just crazy.
There was a UK rev1 3S-FE (yeah, the even slower MR2 ) recently for over £5K

Currently we have...

I would recommend looking into travelling. For a good car, it's really worth it. Takes a day to drive up and down again sure, but much better than limiting yourself to your local surroundings. Plus, you can get the good cars other people aren't willing to travel for
