Have i got boost creep? and do these work?

Post by masterbateson »

I have a MBC on at mo and with it fully wound out the car hits 15psi so does that mean I have boost creep? :?

Car currently has a Large aftermarket air filter poss a K&N a superchips speed de'limiter a super chips FCD and I am in the process of plumbing in a Ebay Berk intercooler copy (missing the bottom pipes #-o )

Also have a mongoose exhaust to sling on, and was wondering as i need some gaskets whether these things might help me kill 2 birds with one stone.

boost creep - if the turbo continues to build boost pressure above the set/desired level at high revs, usually until you hit fuel cut, then yes, you have, if not then it may be that the spring in your MBC is too strong, regardless of where the adjuster knob is ( I've had this problem when using ball and spring controllers, which is why I prefer bleed valves, no moving parts, fit-set-forget)

restrictor plates - a pointless "band aid" to "cure" boost creep which is often brought on by a free flowing exhaust. why bother fitting a less restrictive exhaust, then deliberately fit a restriction to it unless all you want is a little bit of noise and a shiny tailpipe

if I were you, remove the boost controller, put everything back to standard and make sure it's running/driving/boosting correctly then fit aftermarket parts to improve performance :thumleft:

Wonder if i open up My mbc I could snip a bit off the spring to weaken it? :-k We used to do stuff like this in the old days to sort out some problems we used to get in videos  bodge it and scarper! worked tho.

15 psi isn't the end of the world . id try the restrictor and see what it does .try it with no boost controller. proper boost creep goes up and up . like 25 psi

the restrictor goes after the cat or downpipe before the exhaust . what have you got to lose. 20 quid an see what effect it has . it maybe a sticking plaster but controlling boost can get complicated when you start changing things
