Mr2 92 turbo no boost, but turbo spools

Post by shymirror »

anybody that can give me some suggestions,
friday i went on the first ride for 9 months with my car finally got it fired up,
drove fine on low rpm no hesitations or anything but when i was giving it full throttle too see how it responed on high rpms.. just when the turbo kicked in i heard a poof and lost all boost,
tested the car today and it drives fine and everything, but the turbo dont spool up anymore it's behaving like non turbo now now. all the hoses are fine no holes and they are properly tiightened.
there is no fault codes with the diagnosis
anbody have any suggestions what it could be?

changed turbo from ct26 to ct20b
changed turbo hotpipe
tested the wastegate is not stuck and goes back and forth
checked that there is noe loseness in turbo
and checked that there is noe leakage between turbo and intake

can anyone suggest further thing to investigate?

If you are sure there are no holes or loose pipes and the compressor blade is turning free then it could be the exhaust turbine has broken off.

Try disconnecting and plumbing the pipe from the wastegate to the turbos compressor housing, as this will make the wastegate/vsv redundant, so if you make boost it will be because of those two possibly.

Plug up the wastegates now open valve and the pipe you removed.

sounds like a burst pipe, you sure there are no splits on the underside of the pipes etc. ?

Have you got anything that can do a smoke test, my mapper has a fog machine and he blows it into the system to make sure there are no leaks before mapping, works a treat :thumleft:

There's a boost leak, if you can't find it visually take all the pipes off and inspect all the joiners. Inspect the intercooler as well. Smoke machine is a great idea!

Yep definitely a boost leak, I had an IC pipe come loose on the way to Japfest 2 this year and thought I'd majorly destroyed something as it sounded like it was spooling happily but nothing happening  Sounded cool though..

you have a boost leak .. remove bov and blow in to it if it cant handle lung pressure it cant handle on boost and your screwed .. check your hoses and intercooler too .. pain but needs must mate :thumleft:

If it isnt a boost leak or vacuum leak and no hoses are off or clips are loose etc, could he have this sort of symptom if his wastegate was jammed open?
Boost leak deffo caused me loads of probs
