Alloy wheel refurbishing!

Post by Hurstie1981 »

After wanting my rims refurbing, and checking around for prices, i decided instead of paying £30 a wheel minimum, i would do it myself!

Did the first wheel yesterday....spent about 3 hours sanding it down and polishing the rim with my dremmel, then used bmw artic silver in the middle, and plenty of laquor after.....and after a full days patience and hard graft.....it looks great!

All i need now is the rain to stop so i can take a pic, and make a start on the other 3!!

Top stuff.

That's something I fancy doing too as mine have around 200kgs of brake dust pitted in them at the mo!!!!

What puts me off (apart from the hard work) is that someone on TOC had done it themselves, but then went all manky and started peeling etc after a couple of months :(

Mine were refurbished when I bought the car nearly 2 years ago - although obviously done on the cheap and probably done with a brush and a tin of B&Q paint.

Here's a link for anyone thinking of doing the same (or patching up scuffs)...

Nice one!!

I had the same problem, they must have been cheaply done when i got it, and i started to hate the wheels!
It wasnt a hard job, just a little time consuming!
The good thing was that not one single wheel was scuffed or scratched, so i could choose any, and i chose the hardest one first. My caliper seized a few months back and caused the paint to blister....eek!!

It looks good now, just looking for a nice day to start another!!
