donor parts from other cars? and in particular wheels

Post by masterbateson »

Is there a list on here or anywhere else for that matter that gives you a list or info of donor parts from other manufacturers or other toyota models?

I am in particular on the look out for some replacement 2nd hand wheels so would be handy to know if other manufacturers wheels would fit PCD and the rest wise.

ta

P.s.
got the chance of picking up a toyota celica charge cooler at reasonable money, should i go for it? and what sort of coin do they normally go for?

p.p.s
Those standard fitment 15 inch alloys are nice aren't they?
be really handy if someone had a set with good boots that was getting in their way

Pretty much all of the 90's Jap wheels were 5x114, although some used 4x114 and 4x100. Not sure but I think some of the early Scooby wheels were 5x100 too, but iirc STI wheels are 5x114.

They need to be staggered width though ideally! 17" is recommended as the biggest you ought to fit on a mk2 but some owners have managed to fit 18" and 19". 16" is supposedly the best compromise between looks and handling.

This site lists OEM wheel specs, search by PCD 5x114.3. The centre bore for the MR2 is 60.1mm, wheels with smaller centre bore won't fit but no problem fitting wheels with bigger and using spigot rings.

The stock wheels are a staggered figment ie. the rears are wider than the fronts, ideally you want wheels with a similar staggered figment, this limits the choice significantly though as most OEM wheels have the same width front and rear. You will also need wheels in a width and offset that'll fit the standard wheel arches, this MR2 specific offset calculator is very useful in working out what will fit.

I'm using a set of Nissan R32 GTS-T wheels on the front and Nissan R32 GTR wheels on the rear, good quality 16" lightweight wheels made by Rays, more details and pics here: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=173305

Ta 4 the replies guys, the wheels on at the mo are BK racing 17" alloys with plastic #-o spigot rings.

Anyway front tyres are getting low and when i went round to a mates farm to get them balanced as handling was shaking like an alchoholic with the DT's, when i whipped them off there was the mother of all buckles with a split on the inner rim.

I wonder if its safe to assume the BKracing alloys Multifit are not different sizes front to rear and just have different size tyres on?

Plastic spigot rings are fine mate, all they're used for is centering the wheel during mounting, the studs are mostly responsible for holding the wheel in place!

They may well be. Wheels will usually have the sizes and offset somewhere on the inner rim either on a label or cast into the wheel.
