Supercharger not engaging / ECU Problem?

Post by GaryR »

I checked all the basic stuff listed in the workshop manual, fuses, relay, hoses, resistance across the clutch and they all seem fine so I took my car to a friendly mechanic who did some further tests and has said that there doesn't appear to be a signal from the ECU to engage the supercharger clutch.

Could the ECU have blown, is there a way to test this ?

Thanks,
Gary.

I would expect if the ECU is blown, the car wouldn't start.

Needs to be less than 8mm mercury to engage it IIRC. Check the VSV's and hoses are all correct. It is more likely to be that than anything else.

I did wonder how the car would still work if the ECU was broken, but thought it might use some sort of default 'get you home' mode. The mechanic did say that he'd managed to engage the supercharger by overriding the ECU, so that was his best guess.

For the hoses where would I get replacements from, do they need to be a specific specification or can I just take one into a Parts shop and ask for a meter of the stuff or (better still) order it online ?

Thanks,
Gary.

You can always try Toyota.

But they are just vacuum hoses. Buy some hoses and cut to suit is another option. Up to you where you buy it.
