Inner or Outer CV boot?

Post by mr2turbo99 »

Hi All,

I need to replace a CV boot as it's split but i can't figure out whether it's the inner or outer. According to the BGB it looks like the Outer CV boot but to me, Outer would suggest the one closest the wheel.

Also, can the CV boots be replaced without removing the Axle and draining the gearbox fluid?

Thanks.

Ok cool.Thanks.

I'm looking for some information on whether the CV joint requires replacement. I.e.a new assembly when a boot splits or is it just a case of replacing the boot and placing fresh grease Inside.

Thanks.

if the boot is just split pack new grease into it and just do the boot other wise u need to drain gearbox oil and replace the oil... much easier to just do a boot

Ok great. In terms of sliding a new boot on, at what point does the shaft need disconnecting so as not to split the assembly at the CV joint?

Take off the hub nut and take out the two bolts going through the shocker onto the hub and it should give u heaps of room to take the joint out of the hub... I would highly recommend a stretchy cv boot as they are much easier to fit
