REV3,4,5 ROCKER COVER + POWDER COATING

Post by alan_uk »

Hi guys

has any of you ever had a rev3+rocker cam cover powder coated and is there any baffles inside ?

if so are they removable 1's ? also does the rocker have a gasket or does it use gasket sealer

thanks

it does have a gasket mate, it's rubber and removes pretty easy, not sure what you mean by baffles but I can inspect mine tomorrow for you as it's down at my work, I'm about to have it powder coated.

oh, just to add, it's worth replacing the gasket while you have it off as they are prone to leaking etc...unless you know it;s been replaced recently :thumleft:

they do have baffles, which are riveted in from the factory. you can drill them out then tap the holes and use machine screws (and thread lock/locking wire) to re-fit the baffle, this ensures no blasting medium will get caught in it.

although if you use a good powder coater they will use bungs in the holes and properly mask them up first, but best to be safe rather than sorry.

although, as you're a painter anyway alan, you'd probably be best wet spraying it in 2k

cheers guys

yea that is the plan if its baffled as it is ill paint it :) would of just prefered it powder coated to match all the rest ive had done :( they are a very good coaters but i wouldnt trust it as ruined a freshly built rs turbo engine the same way shot in the bores gauged hell out of the block :(

ill also replace the gasket :)

As Rob said- you can remove the baffle plates by drilling the rivets, then tapping for screws, but having tried it- it's pain in the ass job!

You could try having the cover soda blasted, then properly taping up all the baffles before powder coating :-k

Surely mask it yourself before taking it for powder coating and you know you're safe :thumleft: I had my Rev 1 cover powder coated and it was fine, they did the masking. The colour faded pretty quickly though, needed to rub it all down with cutting compound

I had mine powder coated by a reputable company who had experience of doing engine bits.

I asked them to be very thorough in masking up. I also removed the baffles.

They didn't mask the intake manifold properly and my piston rings got stripped

Beware!

Had a proper look at mine today man, the baffles (dunno about the NA) would need drilled out. Much less hassle just to paint it.

Got mine done a while back. Aslong as time is taken to mask it up then it shouldnt be a problem. I havent had any problems with mines and i didnt touch baffles or anything.

If its blasted before hand make sure they use stronger tape than the masking tape though.
