Aerial hole diameter??

Post by VanderBoon »

I'm removing the aerial from my Rev 4 and will be blanking it until I source an S2000 one. Anyone know the hole diameter in the wing?

it isnt round, though if you can get away with a round grommet then happy days.

you can buy a new aerial grommet from Toyota which you could then modify to close off, esp if only required for a short period of time as it wont have to be perfect but rather just watertight

thats a good idea.
i guess use a bit of sealant to keep it in place, as itll just be loose with no aerial unit.
then pop a round grommet in the original one!

Aerial

I have seen oval/rugby ball shaped rubber grommets in the past! Motor factors perhaps.

Why not just leave the aerial in until you get the other one? :?

And is Jim says, the hole isn't round.

The mast is snapped and has resulted in a few cut hands when walking past, mine included. It's also corroded and is a bit of an eyesore.

ah that's a problem needing fixing, if for no reason to stop someone trying to sue you for a cut hand. I think the part number is 86392-17080 for the seal and 86396-20030 for the nut

Thought I'd have a go this afternoon.

Pulled the old aerial out, turned out to be a cheap knock-off one. The hole in the wing was around 31mm x 25mm. I had a few blanking grommets (1", 7/8" & 3/4") so tried the 1" directly into the wing. There was a fair bit of vertical play so I opted not to go with that.

Got the original grommet from the aerial unit, and a 3/4" grommet was a tight squeeze, but once in wasn't moving. So that's what I've done. Grommet into aerial grommet, into wing. Theres a thin layer of silicone between all mating surfaces to try keep it all watertight. Looks a lot tidier than before, and less of a hazard.

Anyways, pics.

You can see the old mast in this photo, snapped and won't fully retract. Also very sharp.

Nice work!

Exactly what I suggested above and looks great.

I may well take my own advise and do the same!
