How cool is this (no pun intended!)

Post by craig »

I have a set of fully refurbished 16" 300ZX wheels to go on the car. I've just found out that the Z32 300ZX wheels are directional!

Apologies if this is common knowledge, but they were designed to pull air in and cool the brakes.

There are 2 ways to tell which side is which, they're stamped L&R or simply by looking at the spokes, there is a 'knife' side and a thick side. Obviously knife side of the spoke to the front, thick side to the back.

Thinking oh balls, I bet I have a mixed set I thought I'd check them out. All stamped June '89 and 2 rights and 2 lefts! \:D/

I have never heard anyone talk about wheels so much as you do with these ones

But yeah, that's pretty cool :thumleft:

Cool piece of design trivia.

On the other hand I know a lot of cars have brake ducting that feeds cool air toward the wheelwells / discs from the inside. Can't remember if the MR2 does, but if it does it will probably conflict!

Yeah, it is pretty cool. Even cooler that I have a complete set of original '89 wheels. I thought after 25 years, they'd end up a mixed set!

Not sure on the MR2 having brake cooling ducts though. I had a '92 turbo imported in 2006, and that had custom ducts through a sard front bumper to the brakes. Similar metal ribbed hose to what you'd find on a tumble dryer. #-o
