You need to keep your boost down or you could get engine damage

Diagnostics codes??

Sounds like boost creep to me, happened to me as soon as i had a free flowing exhaust system installed.
Probably blown your knock sensor due to this aswell, exactly what happened to me but i kept driving and damaged a piston #-o

Very few boost controllers are set by specifying a boost level because it's generally pretty difficult for the controller to actually know what to do with that. It's pretty clear that what you think you've got the boost set to, you actually haven't...

However, Gullzter is right, is does sounds like you have a little creep. TBH, that's pretty common at this time of year - the cold air just accentuates it. If you're happy with the boost level you're hitting (including creep) then don't worry about it too much. But do be careful with high boost and cold air. I lost an engine to the combination of 1.3bar / 19psi and freezing cold air. Turn it down a little mate :thumleft:

another vote for boost creep.. turn down the boost controller, if yours has a "gain" setting try to set it to a minus number, so it will pull boost higher up the revs

basically the problem is the standard turbo hot side is far too small, fitting as free flow exhaust removes the restriction and allows the turbo to breathe a little bit and the pathetic internal wastegate can't vent off gasses fast enough to stop the turbo spinning up even when it's wide open

the only real solution is an external wastegate and/or a better turbo with a bigger turbine housing

or.... do what some people do and fit a "restrictor ring", basically replacing the restriction of the standard exhaust and turning your aftermarket exhaust into a shiny ornament.

I just fitted a blitz nur spec to it and then this started. I will try the error codes tonight. If its the nok sensor, and I replace it, is it just going to go again?

And where do I get the restrictor rings?

overboost/fuel cut is 34
knock sensor is 52

if the car drives fine, then it wont be the knock sensor.
dead knock sensor normally means no revving past 3k rpm.

its bloody cold out there, it for sure could be boost creep after fitting a more free flowing exhaust and outer temps being close to freezing.

My knock sensor went and still did rev til red line.
If you check error codes and knock sensor has went then yes it will happen again til you diagnose and fix issue.
Error codes will hopefully tell us alot more :thumleft:

Wasn't it discovered your knock sensor had gone/error codes on dash when your new engine was installed?

You're correct!

thread: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=175624

In that case, you've been driving around in the car for a year with error codes 21 & 52, without buying new sensors. #-o

Actually car was at SBits for 9months...
Then drove it back home with no issues and bought a knock sensor from MartinF as soon as soon as i got back and i stopped driving the car 2-3weeks after getting it back

you don't want to fit a restrictor ring... unless the only reason you fitted a new exhaust was because it's shiny and loud?

From my experience, restrictor rings suck. I didn't find they helped combat creep much but slowed down the spool and the car felt, well, restricted!

TBH, Davie, your creep really isn't that bad. When I had creep, I could hit 1.25bar/18psi on actuator pressure, which should be 0.5bar/7psi. If yours only reaches 10psi I'd say be aware of it but you don't need to do anything more than manage it by setting the boost controller to a safe level. You'll probably find the creep goes away in the summer :thumleft:
