[Mk2] [Turbo] cam and belt rubbing on top cam belt cover

Post by rob6539 »

Hi guys, started hearing a rattle knock noise from the engine and decided to take the top cam cover off and it looks like the exhaust cam and the belt are slightly rubbing against the inside of the cover.

Belt is running on the very edge of both cams.

Is this a normal thing for the age, ie just need to buy a new cover, our do I have something a bit more worrying to deal with?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Check camshaft to cam gear bolts are tight.

Cam bolts were on v. tight.

Turned out that one of the bolts that holds a metal shield to the cam cover had come loose and was rattling around inside the cam gear like a hamster in a wheel!!! :pale:

Crisis averted and a massive sigh of relief that it didn't cause any serious damage.

As ever, thanks again Peter for such quick response, you're a hero. :D
