OZ 35 5 spoke racing alloy refurb

Post by dexter »

Bought a set in poor condition off a mate for £80 a set (bargain!) Spent many hours stripping them. At painting stage now :) doing a polished lip with white spokes and barrel.

Work so far :D
When I bought them, 2 were in fair condition but other 2 had seen way better days....

Started stripping the paint with a cheap paint stripper... no good at all... Nitromors is the stuff :thumleft:

Took roughly 5 hours a wheel to get to this stage and polished the lips quickly to gauge a rough idea of how they'd look, fairly happy

Test fit with tyres at this point *Didn't fit front ](*,)

Primed wheel with etcher primer, then grey primer, then 600 wet and dry sanded to smooth finish, then 2 light coats of white alloy rattle can...

Will post final before I head off to Japfest

Cheers matey, not sure to be honest but it had Italian in the paint name, can check when i get back home the weekend as me and friend done it so have the tin.

Also out of interest, says you live in Welling and there was a white MR2 near the high street parked on a drive for a long time with an MG ZR there before hand (funny as I had a ZR and now an MR2). Just wondered if that was you?

Ha ha what are the chances that 3 MG ZR owners all got an mr2 afterwards and in such a close proximity!

Thanks matey, will be polishing the rims before every car meet :thumleft: will get a photo when I get the new nankang tyres fitted :D

Wheels look great, well done! :thumleft: are you getting new OZ racing decals?

I hope the nankang thing is a joke though.. unless you mean the NS2-R track day tyres which are supposed to be quite good

Cheers and yeah already have the decals :thumleft:

AS-1 NANKANGS are only tyres I can afford and the car is never tracked and is a show car so therefore doesn't take a beating with tyres.

What are your views on nankang as everyone I've met with them say they are a great tyre for price?

My opinion? They're ditch finders, I'd advise saving up till you can get something half decent.

Of course it's your money/car/choice.. But for the difference of a couple of hundred quid it seems worth the wait, especially if you use it in the wet

Problem is, I'm a student with very low funds and the car is being prepped for Japfest so need the wheels on :-k

Finishing polish and the first rim is fully done using autosol polish and a cloth by hand :thumleft:
