[Mk2] [NA] No radio, dead Aerial and Central Locking with a mind of its own

Post by Flyin' Donkey »

Having a few issue with the electrics guys!

A couple of weeks ago my standard CD Player gave up, although the radio and the aerial worked fine.

Later on in the day, I got into the car & could hear a whirring noise coming from behind me, I started the engine, the noise stopped and the Aerial refused to come up. The headunit still worked although with no CD Player and no radio it wasn't much use. About 3 miles down the road, the power went from the Head unit and it died. Along with this the interior light died.

I checked the fuse box in the foot well, all was ok.

I checked the Dome fuse, this had blown, replaced it, still nothing works.

So, the CD Player, Interior light & Aerial is goosed.

The Cig Lighter is still working fine though.

..... and now my central locking has joined in on the fun, the remote fob isn't working, and if I use the key to lock the drivers door it doesn't lock the passenger one.... and when I'm driving the doors have a habit of locking, unlocking, locking, unlocking, with no music to listen to the noise of the doors having a party is bloody annoying

Where do you start trying to find the fault?

Any help would be great, ta

Check the radio fuse.

If it blows again, unplug the arial.

Radio fuse is still ok, does the aerial unplug in the boot or behind the stereo?

Aeriel unplugs in the boot.

The radio requires two fuses to work - dome fuse and radio fuse.

I didn't make myself clear.

I have known aerial faults cause the fuse to blow. But if both fuses are good, then the aerial would seem not to be the fault.

So, if both fues are good, it would appear the fault lies with the equipment.

Time to get wiring diagrams and voltmeter out to confirm!
