[Mk2] [NA] rusty / seized bolts Mk2

Post by smashing666 »

Hi All,

I'm going to embark on some restoration work and will be stripping the car slowly. I've had a quick go at loosening things like the caliper and handbrake related bolts and had no real luck, so I imagine getting to wishbone bolts would be even harder. What would be the best method for loosening rusty / seized bolts, WD40? Blow torch? Freeze spray?

Cheers!

plus gas, a decent set of 6 sided sockets and a decent quality breaker bar is about all you should need for most bolts on a '2

+1
Although for the suspension bolts I found the best method was a blow torch and a bloody big breaker bar as some of those bolts are rather large and very seized

For the undertray bolts you will snap pretty much all of them so expect to be drilling them out :thumleft:

Actually managed to shear a floor bolt today!

Any advice on hand held torches? Where and what type of gas?
