And the weight of my mk2 MR2 GT Turbo is....

Post by ryan »

Got the car weighed last week, with a full tank of petrol and about an estimated 20kgs of stuff in the boot/cockpit (I was going home for the weekend)
So the weight of my '94 GT Turbo T-Bar with Air-con, ABS is

1357KGS

Notable mods that may have added/reduced weight are as follows:
1. Departure Exhaust
2. Decat
3. GReddy side skirts
4. League (non lightweight) alloy wheels

The front axle was weighed first, then the rear

Rear was 779kg
Front was 578kg

I read in the back of an old EVO mag that the weight of a mk2 MR2 n/a is 1305kg (not sure what rev). So it would be right that the turbo would be heavier by a bit more :?

So shes a bit of a bat fastard then really :?

I'm not surprised in all honestly you generally find that your car weighs more than the manufacturers figures which are hardly ever realistic.

I will weigh my early MK1 Na once i get it on the road.

Yeah, I noticed you got your Mk1 weight nearly down to 1000kg after some weightsaving measures, last year. That will do wonders for agility/bhp per tonne :)

I suppose being a T bat and GT spec has tipped it over the 1300kg mark :?
I realy do think the Mk 2 is far too heavy for what it is (ie budget 2 seater sports car), but I do like my luxuries

FWIW On all my data hunting over the years I have seen figures quoted from 1220 kg's up to a massive 1400 kg's.

Cheers

That seems about right, a rev 1 T bar GT is over 1330 . A rev 3 would be heavier again.
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

Are you talking about a GT turbo or n/a GT? EVO mag quote the GT as being 1305kgs, can anyone clarify this using the vin plate or handbook?
I suspect the turbo engine gearbox would be heavier than an n/a :? , thus 1335kg seems abut right for a GT turbo Tbar

Evo figures are miles out tbh. They list the MK1 as 925Kgs, but i know its heavier than that! they don't list the MK2 anymore last time i looked ;)

The VIn plate or handbook are useless. Only way is to go weigh your car really.

1280kg is the official weight of the MR2 GT Turbo. One way or the other I think i'n going to find an accurate weigh bridge so that we can put this debait to rest once and for all

Bleedin' hell, this still going on?

As I said the weight of the car did include about 20kgs of stuff in the boot/front bonnet/cockpit, so I guess the real weight with full tank of petrol would be 1330kg for a rev3 GT T bar turbo with a/c, p/s, side impact bars etc (which the lighter rev1/2 didnt always have)
