16" tyre recommendations

Post by tezmc »

Hi guys

I've got a set of Skyline R32 GTR/GTS-T wheels to go on my Rev 5. They need a new set of tyres and was wondering what people recommend to use? The sizes I'll need are 205/45/16 and 225/45/16. I can get a set of Toyo T1-Rs for £328 fitted, what do people think of them? I've got T1-Rs on the front and Avon ZZ3s on the rear at the minute with my 17" Enkei RP-01 wheels. I've heard the T1-R can wear quite quickly on the rear due to the engine weight though?

Cheers

T1-R's are good. I was overly impressed when i had them in the summer. They managed to a good drive round the alps and kept up with 45 degree heat in Italy. They are mid range tyres though. I can't comment on the wear factor though as i didn't have them on for long.

They don't last long on the track......

If tracking the car, I'd avoid T1R's, but as above, they are perfectly good on the road.

just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...

I was using 205/45 r16 front and 225/40 r16 on the rear though your setup is practically identical to stock (according to Gordaen)

Uniroyal Rainsports are a pretty good all rounder although they're not as good in the dry as say T1-R's they're awesome in the rain and will last ages too

T1-R's aren't too bad if you go 205/45 on the front and 225/45 on the rear as both these sizes are XL (extra load) so have stiffer sidewalls than normal T1-R's. Even so, as stated, a couple of track sessions will eat the edges off them!

I've run Falken FK452's (on the back, couldn't get them for the front) and Kumho KU31's and KU39's all round. I've found the Kumho's to be excellent, especially for the price and stand up to track days (and in my case sprinting) surprisingly well.

The issue with the Kumho's is stock levels, but if you can get a set of KU31's or KU39's you'll be happy (just make sure to scrub them in for a few miles before leaning on them - they're quite greasy form new).

If you dont mind your speedo being slightly out 205/50/16 and 225/50/16 fits pretty well. Bonuses are the car rides slightly better due to more sidewall and you get a larger choice of tyres.

Rears might rub if the car is slammed to the ground, but shouldnt if lowered a resonable amount. Also depends on offsets and if your using coilovers or struts.

205/50/16 and 225/45/16 would be my pick

had these sizes on my MR2 before I sold it, best tyre combo I'd used until that point having used 15, 16 and 17" wheels
