Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
I've done a search but can't find what I'm after....
My Alternator has seized up after not using the car for a few days. There was lots of smoke from the belt before it finally broke. I felt the pulley on the Alternator and it is solid, I can't move it by hand.
I'm hoping I can free it up with a socket + breaker bar but before I go trying, can anyone tell me if I can put a socket on the pulley and if so what size it is? I've ordered a new belt and hope I can keep it going for the weekend before sourcing a replacement alternator.
Engine is a REV 3 3SGE if it makes any difference?
Thanks.
I believe a 22mm socket is required, or something thereabouts.
Being Rev3, your alternator will have an oval plug connector instead of the round plug that came with Rev1/2.
You'll probably need a replacement alternator.
HI mate...if you do need a new alternator, I purchased one the other day and spent some time looking around as large difference in prices. Eventually used a company called ABM Starters, www.abmstarters.co.uk.
Spoke to Cassie who was amazing, so helpful as had an awkward size. Give them a try in you need one.
I got mine from tcb parts.
I couldn't get a socket down on it but even if you freed it off it would only seize again later on.
Quite difficult to replace on the floor but did it in not too long.
