Lucky escape today

Post by kaiowas »

I was doing some work on my roll cage installation today and had to drop the front undertray off whilst welding (I hadn't just set fire to it or anything  )

I was greeted by some pretty grotty looking hard lines hidden away behind there. I lightly brushed some of the surface flakes off by hand and a couple of minutes later it looked like this:

That wet bit is the brake line that feeds the rear brakes, god knows how close that was to failing on track.

Went to Toyota and I knew something was up when the price quoted for the brake line, clutch line and replacement clip wasn't too extortionate. Turns out they can't get any of those parts so I'm going to have to make up my own lines and run them all along the car which is going to be fun. Already got the stuff for brake pipes but the clutch is a different diameter so I'm going to have to go shopping again first.

So yeah, a reminder to check all those hidden bits that the MOT man can't get to

What tubing are you going to use? I got myself cunifer but the simple hand press just wont shape it. Copper sounds too weak to me .. and steel rusts ..

I have used copper for my brake lines and it was pretty easy to use without a bending tool, dunno about the clutch though.
