[Mk2] [NA] Mongoose exhaust fitting problem

Post by Rob66 »

Hi all

I had a new (N/A) Mongoose exhaust (with the rolled pipes) fitted on Friday. I had it done by MR T as my car was there for something else and the price was not unreasonable. Anyway love it, but….whatever they do they don’t seem to be able to get it to sit straight! There is no damage to it (that I can see) but the left pipe is lower and sticking further out by about an inch – its not awful but its not as good as I would like.

Has anybody else had the problem or know a simple remedy as it will certainly annoy me after a while. Driving up to Mongoose is not really an option at the moment.

Cheers all

Rolled tips? Sounds like you're trying to fit a turbo exhaust to an NA. The NA Mongoose has slash cut tips, not rolled ones. :-k

I had the same issue with the NA exhaust, it's just the way they make them ](*,)

You can adjust a lot of it on the hangers as the slots the bolts go through are larger than the bolts, to get the rest of it you could ubbolt the hanger from the chassis on the side that is sitting higher and put an ali spacer between it and the chassis to lower it...

Strange, years and years ago when I had an NA Mongoose, it fitted straight on. :-k

http://mongooseexhausts.com/store/shop/ ... oyota/mr2/

Only shows slash cut NA system and rolled tip turbo systems for MK2....

And that's from the Mongoose website.

*Edit, you can now select rolled or slash cut on NA systems.

Hi Ashley,

 yes mine are about as pi$$ed as yours lol. I was thinking about the slash cut but decided on the rolled.

Hi Rik

Mine is the same as yours, just not as straight.

I left it with the garage today to have a play with, so i'll let you know, i don't have much confidence.

Cheers Ash, will let you know if they manage to sort it.

you should be able to adjust that on the rear hangers, loosen the bolts and push up or down to get it fitting level. i have even bent the brackets in or out to get them sticking out level on the 3 i have fitted.

My picture above was after adjusting it on the hangers, but I never resorted to bending any brackets...if I had kept the car and was worried about it's looks I would have used a spacer.

But the correct answer should be to return to manufacturer and ask for one that is built properly imo

My old rev3 had a Mongoose system that was a little bit off as well. Not nearly as bad as the example earlier in the thread but never was right. Fitted by one of the previous owners.

I think it must be a common thing with Mongoose exhausts. Shame, as they're a good exhaust choice for the NA MR2.

Cheers for advice guys

Rik yours looks ok, mines the same design but at a jointy angle!

Anyway just called the garage to see how they are getting on with the refit (they're putting the CAT back on that I told them not to take off I the first place) and they tell me that its still not sitting any better.

Called Mongoose who said I could take it to them but that’s 250miles each way, so just called Rogue Motorsport who I purchased it from and I’ll see how bad it is later and may take it up to them just the 136miles each way! When I have a week off end of May (g/f will love that already thinks my life revolves round the car  )

Pain in the XXX to be fair ](*,)

Ps if anyone knows a friendly garage that may be able to help in either Sussex or Essex please let me know, cheers
