Black from the Dead

Post by hmltnangel »

Well, I've been pottering about now with this car for two years and felt it time to bring a proper project thread so we can see the progress made on the car since the day I picked up the wreck two years ago.

Pick up the car on a low loader with a completely fubard engine and for all I knew .... any number of other problems. She looked relatively nice and I was happy to pay less than £900 for it.

Well after a long trip all the way home to Edinburgh from Wolverhampton I set about phase 1.

Phase 1 - Get car on the road:

On the way home I picked up a new engine as well so over the next 2-3 months I spent ripping the guts out of the car and preparing the new engine to go in.

At this point I decided to change from Rev 2 to 3 but keep all the decent bits the old owner had left on it.

By doing this in the drive I had to do it slowly due to access and weather issues but eventually the new engine went into the car

From there many many days were spent working out the wiring and hoses and so on, this was more dificult as I had decided to go Rev 3 instead of Rev 2 for the engine.

I finally got to startup stage:

And boy was I happy that there was life in the old girl :)

By then we were looking like this
Image

A few more weeks and the car was engine wise .... ready for MOT :)

The sills however - were a state, something I only found out when I ripped the skirts off her.
Image

The old one and the new one I chopped off a breaker.

finally ready for MOT

And finally passed and on the road :D

All was good at this point for a few months until something went horribly wrong. I cant say for sure whether it was something I done or something inherited from the old bits I reused but something large and rubber got ingested by the turbo, this destroyed the turbo, and the engine. :(

So began phase 2.

Phase 2 consisted of just getting the engine I had just fitted out and another back in. This was all good and well and didnt take me too long but the engine I had bought from some dodgy Jap Breakers in Birmingham turned out to be knackered too. Camshafts were rattling there nipples off!

Image

So out came that engine back on a pallet to them and the buggers refused to refund me! Simple solution - Visa Chargeback - works a treat for A**SES like that. Now I had my money back 6 weeks later....... I traipsed my ass to the Lake District to pick up another engine and then spent the next month or so dodging rain and miserable weather to get the 3rd engine in. Car eventually made it back on the road befor ethe snow but I put it back off to do phase 3 over the winter :D

Phase 3 consisted of tidying up the interior and changing out some bits for things I really wanted...... :)

Away went the BK Racing Wheels to be replaced by Lenso D1R
Image

Away went the Greddy Replica IC to be replaced by an ST205 Chargecooler
Image

Away went the original front brakes - replaced with S14 Calipers/Supra Discs
Image

Production did stop for a while ....
Image

Away went the old Rev 3 lights - replaced with Rev 6 lights
Image

Image

The interior got cleaned up too. With a new sound system, new mats and leds all round

New Sub Driver Amp - Nice piece of Rockford kit
Image

Infinity Sub & Phoenix Gold amp
Image

There are also some nice Kicker Components in the OEM front locations too

The seats are OEM but in excellent condition with no rips, just some slight wear in the usual spot.

Dials were changed to Lockwood with blue LED
Image

An MR2 Eddy triple pillar pod was in order too along with a steering wheel I know not many people like but I do .... so tough lol

The interior looks like this at the minute with a nice Greddy Profec in the centre hole.
