Tyre size problems

Post by Scott25 »

Hi all, just a quick question. I recently acquired 2 tyres in the size of 225/55/15. At the moment I have standard 15s 225/50/15's on the rear with 40mm lowering springs. Now having looked at these new 55s beside the car, they look slightly too big for the arch. Question is, will they actually fit the car as even though the widths are the same as 225/50s, they have broader sidewalls. Is there much room up in the arches there for fatter tyres, its quite hard to tell. Any help really appreciated!

Not positive but I reckon if you're on standard wheels as your garage images suggest they'll be well inboard of the arch lips so doubt very much you'll get any rubbing. That's not gospel though.

Yeah that's also true although it's not the biggest difference. It's an increase in RR of 3.7% so when your speedo says 70mph you'll actually be going at about 72.5mph.

Should be 50 but if its already on there then no point changing it until it wears out.

Cheers for all the replies guys. Im just going to stick the 225/55's on the rears then! It just looks a bit crap because the tyres are so fat an completely fill the arches up, but beggers can't be choosers... as I got the tyres for free!!! Certainly cheaper than 2 more Toyos anyway! Thanks again
