Painting underside of car

Post by ^Trickster^ »

Has anyone done this?

I am looking at stripping all suspension off, cleaning all surface rust etc and painting it.

I want something that is flexible and won't chip easy but isn't tacky all the time like waxoil, looked at this http://catalogue.3m.eu/en_GB/GB-Marine/ ... ng%7E08861#

But any other suggestions?

Hammerrite and por 15 etc wont do the job

I would also prefer something that can be brushed on

Thanks

Graeme

Red lead is red oxide Graeme, a thick primer for bare steel, they do this in Halfords, B&Q etc. Should be readily available and not too expensive but use some decent brushes as it can thicken up as it goes on.

+1 :thumleft: That does look the business, Daz. Must be armour plating the car against the UK elements.

Looks good. I have an original '90 Sapphire Cosworth that I bought a few months ago and was looking to use waxoyl to protect the underside but heard mixed reviews about the stuff.

From my investigation POR15 with a top coat of anti stone chip is spot on.

I would use POR15, with a thick underseal topcoat as Rob says.

That stuff dries seriously solid. I have a block of it that had dried in a container here and it is like a hockey puck.
