Soaking passenger floor

Post by Seanie »

Hello all
I have noticed this week that my passenger footwell is soaking with water.
Where should I look first, the t bar seems ok some of the seals needs to be replaced as it drips bit no way would it be that much water as its been wetter earlier this year and never got like this.

Any help would be great

I'd be interested in this too, as my car is an import tintop, and I also have a damp (not soaking) passenger carpet :(

For Seanie with the T-Tops, it's probably them. Mine leak down the pillar and onto the carpet there. :(

Whoa!! Last Friday I found my passenger side carpet was absolutely soaked too!! I have a moonroof.

No sign of leaks anywhere! It's dried out now and seems to be staying that way, but very suspicious!

I first noticed it in the heavy rains at the beginning of the summer  Water was going down the bulkhead carpet onto the floor and made its way forward before I found the footwell wet on the passenger side.
No leaks from the t-bar but then found my seatbelt was damp (its not so bad on drivers side) and I put my hand behind passenger seat and found it was wet  then investigated and found the carpet under the seat was wet.
Strangely the only drips I found were on the plastic above the window? Which I don't understand and have garaged the car since and not driven it in the wet, I do have the windows out of my old car with good seals on them ready to fit.

leaks

You will need more than good seals last i heard a Toyota sealing kit per window was £39 per side, floorpan must be on slight angle so rear window leak runs into cubby boxes then follows the longitudinal floor pressed strenghtening ribs straight under seat box section into the footwells.
Try window/screen installers might be best option, but the three 8mm studs/nuts around the steel peripheral rear window frame where the seal is fitted needs sealer.
This leak could be a source of "the wet sponges" and the rear sill rust problems that sound nightmarish, with the leak running down the floor strenghtening ribs below carpet level it doesn't neccesarily affect the rear carpets behind the seats.

Do you ever clean/rejuvenate the rubber weather seals near the door hinges downwards and along the underside of the door and up the other side towards the door handle?

If not you can get water through there as the rubbers age.

A couple of years ago I was getting a wet passenger carpet.

It was getting by the rubber door trim near the hinges and dripping down a length of plastic trim with a U shaped cross section. The plastic trim was slightly broken at one end where it should interlock with other trim.
The trim could get out of alignment if the door was opened and closed.
Misalignment of the trim helped the water come into the car.

Problem went away after I used rubber rejuvenator right the way along all the door seals.

Every couple of months I do this to the rubbers on the TBars, door pillars, door seals and boot seals.

As well as helping keep the rubber in good condition, which helps keep the water out, it also prevents squeeks.
