Is it dead?

Hi,

I saved a Rev3 that was sitting alone in a disused locked up car park. It hadnt moved in years and I drove by it for years till I found out eventually who the owner was and I bought it off him. Believe it or not the need its battey charged and the tyres blown up. I turned the key and it burst into life with not even a puff of smoke from the exhausts. With a big grin on my face I aranged to get the car home.
When I managed to jack the backend up I saw the dreaded rusted sills and the boot was full of water. Once drained I noticed the alot of rust on the back arches in side the boot. I pushed the rust and my finger went straight thru. My heart sunk

I managed to get new sills which I still have to weld on but Im wondering is it possible to weld new back arches? Or is the car dead?

Any advice would be great cheers.

Anything is possible. You can buy a complete quarter panel to replace it so it's fresh. Any body shop should be able to source, fit and paint it. But i have no idea on what cost is involved.

As stated, rear arch is part of a full rear quarter, so will be costly.

I know the feeling when i got myrev 2 the back arches was rotted beyond belief, i have it up with a fella to get it welded and i had to get two quater panals and colour match paint, its costing 300 for the welding and a bit of spraying and the quarter panals and paint was around 170 (but got a subframe as well) quarter panals was second hand

Cheers for the replies I'm going to take pics of the rust and see what you guys think. I really want to get the car on the road and it is a project. But I don't want to do all this work for the MOT guy to say it can't be fixed.

I ran up the temp on the engine and then I heard a hiss noise. My son started waving his hands when I went to the front I saw the radiator was p1$$ing everywhere. now it's raining big time so the car was squeezed back in the garage to be tackled another day.

Be careful with it, you won't want to end up spending a load of money on a rotten pear, especially when you can pick up Mk2s for £500!

Yeah I think im gonna get someone who can weld and see if they think its salvagable.

If not do you think I would get much to break the car or just put it in the scrapyard?

Either do it yourself...or scrap it, because it'll cost £4-600 to put right.

All you need is some metal, a mig welder, a drill, some wire brush tools, a few tins of underseal and some acid etch primer. Hammer, vice, grips and a grinder too. As it's hidden by the bumper it doesn't matter what it looks like. Did mine myself - wouldn't want to do it again without being given £400 as it takes a long time but it's not that hard to weld.

Thats a real shame, i often let my heart overrule my head when it comes to sad disowned cars
