222D rally car

Post by Mr2stu »

I'm trying to find as much info for the 222d rally car as possible, info, pics, videos... I understand it never got chance as the group b rally got cancelled but was this really a rally winning car??
If anyone in the knowledge could help me or even link a page as I'm struggling to find anything on the Internet :(

There are quite a few pics of some of the cars online, but I don't think you'll find any info about their performance as the spec of the car hadn't even been finalised when Group B was canned. As I understand it there were as many as 10 cars built to test various configurations ( 4WD, RWD, NA, Turbo, SC ) but only three or four seem to have survived, unless Toyota have the rest stored away somewhere.

Have a look through the album this is in, there are one or two pictures of them in there.

11 made, 3 survive. One in Japan, 2 in Germany at TTE. TTE were instructed to dismantle all the cars when the group were canned but they were naughty and kept a couple. 8)

503E engine IIRC.

Why out of interest?
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

AFAIK (I might be wrong) it never saw any competition.

I believe it was intended for Group S rallying, which was to succeed Group B until the hazards of Group B forced a rethink.

Both the Black and the White 222D's have been featured in the jdm WRC magazine some years back, with lots of pics of the special features, etc. I've had both, but have sold the one with the Black model on. I actually have the copy with the White 222D up for sale on MR2oc.com at the moment. Would have been a much more interesting read if I could speak Japanese, lol.
