Today I went to dad's work just to visit and see what its like
I've known his manager for years, right back from the days of karting as a younger lad and he's always looked out for me
After a long chat about all the mr2 mk1s lying around his facility and the one mk2 (which had no sunroof at all, first ive seen like that)
We got on to the topic of engines and the celica his sun races.
Here's the good bit....
He had a set of cams made for the 3sge engine to give a tremendous gain in power, turned out it took the engine from 150hp to about 230/240hp which put it 30/40hp over the categories limit...
So hes had these cams sat in his garage, boxed up, for quite some time, and hasn't really known what to do with them...
I NOW HAVE THEM at the price of two corbreau seats, i dont think the 2 seats quite equate to £600 so i think i got a good deal and they've only been used for one dyno run
QUESTION
Do these sound like realistic figures?
and he said i wouldn't need to change anything to my engine in order to get them to run, sound right to you guys?

£9000 will buy you a 3S-GE F3 engine - 230BHP without restrictor.
So whilst the cams MAY be capable of producing power in that region, they'll be no good without all the rest of the parts needed to make a full race engine.

Re: A trip to an MR2 race garage
Probably notice as much difference with these fitted and no other mods as you would with fitting an ebay uni-chip, lol.
A good start if your going to modify the engine highly ... Personally I would have kept the seats
Sorry just my 2 pence...

If it were that easy then Toyota would have been producing 500bhp MR2 Turbos as standard.

Re: A trip to an MR2 race garage
It would be an obscene cam profile to get that power, but you'd also be revving mega high, need an ecu, rods/bolts (for higher revs) top fuel, etc.
On top of that, as a road car, it'd drive absolutely horribly! Like, undriveable!!!
I'd ask for seats back! Lol

Re: A trip to an MR2 race garage
Cams of that duration will struggle with any sort of plenum based inlet, without ITB's you'll probably make the car undriveable. You will need deep pockets to get to 230bhp N/A but its possible.
N/A tunning, the expensive way to go slowly.

That much for 230bhp?, my astra made 226bhp on jenvey TB's and MBE with an SBD setup on piper cams
Cost me like 1/4 of that though and it was a 2.0 16V too.

So sounds like this guy has scammed you or just doesn't know what he's talking about. Is it too late to get your seats back?

you wont, not with cams alone. you will still need headwork, aftermarket ecu + mapping, adj cam pulleys, exhaust manifold/exhaust, the list goes on. ££££ not worth it
