Quick thanks to two forum members, neither of which are my customers, just plain helpful guys.

Had an Mk1 SC in with a horrendous intermittent charging problem.

Thanks to Munter (Paul) for testing the external regulator on his car whilst i was in Le Mans, and returning it to me from Scotland promptly.

And thanks to Mk1Chris for delivering a SC gearbox from London to me FOC.

SC is going out today, so customer happy.

Thanks guys :thumleft:

Well as you know, the previous garage/auto electrician had supplied and fitted a reconditioned alternator, and i could see the belt end was bright silver casing, so left it as is.

Checked and double checked everything - no faults found.

Started engine, reached down behind alternator to "wiggle" wires and got major burn on fingetip from main charge wire stud!

Nut had been cross threaded, wire was loose, and stud was corroded - no new diode pack fitted wneh reconditioned!

So retapped stud, cleaned stud and terminal, new nut fitted and tightened.

Test drove repeatedly - perfect! ](*,)

I also just wanted to say thank you to all those that have helped get this car back on the road. Peter has done a fantastic job in diagnosing and sorting out the charging problem and also fixing the dead speedometer, which is now fully functioning.

I have only just got in a short while ago, having clocked up almost 200 miles in just one day!.. an absolute joy to drive..its been a long wait but has definitely been worth it!

Bet your Mrs was happy...

"I'm just nipping over to Barnsley (15 miles) to pick my car up.

Finally turns up 4.5 hours later with 200 miles on the clock.
