Never put your boot into valet mode!

Post by MR2 Rich »

Went to open the boot on my rev2 mr2 and turned it 90 degrees anticlockwise. Very unwise thing to do as it locks but due to a slightly warn key wouldn't open for love nor money. Then a trick I read on here about graphite from a pencil and lots of wd40 it eventually opened so next time I'm going to open it by the lever in the car.

mine seems only to have regular flip inside to open or locked on valet mode, never actually been able to turn the key in the boot lock to open the boot, are you supposed to be able too?...

If you were to give someone your car to park and didn't want them to get into the boot you can lock the boot by turning the key 90 degrees to the left in the boot lock with the master key.

It's useful on a t-bar if you're parking it with the roof off!

Its a 30 min job to remove and strip the barrel. Leave the key in and grind any protruding blades. It will now work with a standard key. May be a little less secure but if someone wants to get in that badly........

You had a lucky escape, I had to drill through my boot to open it when mine went in valet mode. :pale:
