click/crack/bang noise??

Post by gaz700 »

as the title, when in first or reverse just as the clutch bites i get a loud click almost like a cv joint but only once, would a worn engine mount sound like that,iv been underneath it looking while someone else makes it make the noise and cant trace it but it sounds like its coming from the rear mout but cant feel anything through it? just wondered if anyone else has had this problem?

What car do you have? add it on the profile menu, takes seconds.

Does it have LSD?

Ok, you may have a trd or similar lsd which can make bangs.
See here.

Driveshaft support bearing can make all sorts of clicky noises when worn.

there isnt any noisewhen driving its just one loud click when taking of in reverse or 1st,i can get it to make the noise by putting the brakes on and bringin the car just past biting point so the car isnt moving its just moving the engine if you get what i mean?

Yep. Driveshaft support bearing high up the list of suspects.

Can't really test it without removing the shaft and bearing from the support bracket. Bearing is Toyota only, about £40.

if i was to unbolt the mount from the engine and just let it hang on the shaft, and do a quick biting point test this should eliminate the bearing from making the crack noise as there would be no strain on it???

You can try, but i wouldn't even consider it. Your driveshaft will most likely exit the gearbox.

£40 and 1.5 hours work to replace. No big deal...

This. I had the same thing. Replaced driveshaft support bearing, sorted.

Could be suspect.

the noise is there with no movement on the shaft though, which is why i thought engine mount but couldnt see how the noise was coming from the mount as there isnt really anything to click
