recomendations for clutch on a v6 conversion please!

I have heard of some v6's ripping clutches apart from the torque-can anyone suggest a clutch that i could use that wont break the bank!

already have a techniclutch fast road clutch (done 10k on old engine)

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Don't buy that... buy cheap, buy twice. Buy the OEM clutch, it's well capable of holding up to 250 ish bhp.

I am doing a V6 in 2 weeks with my mate who is just finishing his 4th conversion.

He recommends LUK clutches, they can handle the power and have not failed him yet. At around £60 each they shouldn't break the bank either.

Buying the clutch is the cheap part, it's the labour that costs. Your cheap 60 quid clutch won't be so cheap if it falls apart and you have to fit another.

I totally agree, Joey and I always take this into account when buying parts but the LUK is certainly a stronger clutch, when I bolted one up on Saturday I found that there's a lot of pressure to take up before the pp is clamped down. You can see this on the springs in the centre, the whole profile changes.

Not quite as much as say the Techniclutch, but in that general direction.

By comparison the stock n/a clutches are only a few mm of the fly face.

I presume you have an N/A flywheel and not a Turbo one then?

yea i have a na box and flywheel-basically dont want to spend rediculous money but dont want to be dropping the engine out again in a few months! Interesting thought about oem clutch-didnt think it would stand up to the extra torque!

Fair enough. I've got and N/A box and Turbo flywheel and cover to match. It's got a silly rated (500ft/lb) cover and a 4 puck N/A centre. It's pretty heavy to use and verry noisy and grabby, but it's a track car and I wouldn't reccomend this set up for the road. I'd be tempted to try the LUK one that's been reccomended to you if it's only for normal road use.

Yea this will be my daily driver-do alot of mileage so dont want to end up with a bodybuilders left thigh!haha

Whatever you do, don't skimp on the clutch! Especially if You enjoy launching. I went with a c-one turbo flywheel, exedy stage 2 pressur plate and had a custom 6 paddle friction plate 5sfe made. It's solid!!

how much did it cost for the custom friction plate?got me thinking...... i could use my techniclutch pressure plate with a uprated friction plate!

Around 160quid. I cant be sure but I think it was these guys who I got it off of www.clutch-specialists.co.uk/

Turnaround was a few days. Just checked their website and they still say they make clutches but couldn't find a link. Unfortunately you won't get a non custom paddle clutch for the na gearbox!

The pressure plate was around the same price - its heavy but you get used to it (and so does your left calf!). (Turbo pressure plate)

The flywheel was the most expensive- over 400 notes from Japan but its over a 1kg lighter than a fidanza!

The tranny upgrades (got a 1.5 way cusco diff fitted too) transform the v6. Such a difference how the power is put down and how safe you feel launching the car without fear that the clutch can't cope!

If you need any more advice don't hesitate to ask. The genius that is Paul woods did all my upgrades.

Unfortunately you won't get a non custom paddle clutch for the na gearbox!

Strange, works for me Anyway, yes I got an N/A paddle centre plate from Grip-Force off US ebay. Worked out about £70 inc postage IIRC.

Surely your best bet is a turbo clutch? They can handle more torque than your average V6 conversion makes.

Held strong for a year of trackdaying and drag-stripping, so no complaints so far

Fine if you're using a Turbo box, but many V6 conversions use an N/A box which has different splines on the shaft for the centre plate. This is due to the base car usually been an N/A due there cheap as chips nature
