Lincolnshire Newbie

Post by Lincs-SW20 »

Hi All,

After quite some vehicular 'soul searching', I've made the conscious move from Frenchies to Japs; breaking my Jap virginity with a very reasonably priced early MK2 MR2 REV 1. £400 for 5 months tax & test and receipts for cam belt and clutch seemed pretty unmissable to me!

I've had her now for about 4 weeks and enjoyed her so much, I've just bought myself another TOYota  but more about that later...

I've already made a few subtle modifications; those being:

Tein Superstreet Coilovers all round
Front ARB drop link conversion to accomodate Tein suspension (Mazda Premacy Drop Links!)
Japspeed exhaust system
TRD induction system
REV3 Alloy Wheels
Mintex brakes all round

I've only got one photo of the MR2 at the moment because I've not had time for a good wash & photo session but I can't seem to post it :(

I've unfortunately not got any photos of the second toy yet, but it's a Gen 5 Celica GT in the same delightful faded red as the MR2!

Anyway future plans for the MR2 include a REV3 engine and gearbox and various chassis strengthening.

Any comments welcome :D

Yep - they fit absolutely fine!

Basically, your pre-requisite for drop links with tein coilovers is around 8" long with opposite facing ball joints.

The mazda ones, at full extention, result in an absolute minimum gap of 7mm between the ARB and the wishbone and turn lock to lock with no problems both raised and seated.

My main piece of fitting advice would be to grind a couple of flats into the body of the thread right before the thread so you've got something to get a spanner onto to hold it still whilst doing up the nut.

I also found it easier to burn most of the nyloc out of the nuts for the top of the drop links, simply because of access issues.

I can try to provide some diagrams to further explain myself if anything above isn't clear!

Also, all age premacies have the same drop links and it's the front ones you want.

Welcome, I made that jump to, but I still get the itch for a B road blast in a FWD French flimsy.

Well then Lee...I never thought I'd see you on here!

You seem to be following me....

I'm 'pugmadnath' who used to have the red 106 XSI race car with the blue bonnet!

I mainly made the jump to jap because of the reliability and build quality to be honest...you don't tend to get interior rattles in an MR2 like you do in a Pug!

I've had 53 cars all in (I'm 25!) and 16 of them have been pugs.

My race car started life as a totally standard series 1 1360cc XSI in Cherry red.

By the time I'd finished with it, it was a cat cammed 16v running custom intake, magnex race exhaust, custom springs, bilstein dampers, Sparco cage, Lifeline fire system, Cobra monaco seats & 6 point 3" sparco harnesses.

It was a true scooby eater
