Well it sometimes over heats

the many times we have let air out of the rad at the front and topped it up is getting quite boring now

my friend told me to "take it for a blast" after we thought we fixed it and this is what happened

any thoughts, still starts fine, got heat through the vents in the car, its only when she gets a good thrashing she heats up (or is driven for ages)

Did you bleed the air out of the heater matrix as well?

There's a guide on here or mr2oc that tells you how to do this. You also need to bleed when the engine is hot so that the thermostat opens.

I'd get a sniffer test done first. Mke sure it's not the hg.

Bit of Mayo under the oil cap isn't too bad but oil in the water system isn't good mate! I'd get it sniffed bud before you spend any money

sniffer test will prove but just maybe it's the rad cap not holding pressure and/or the stat not fully opening.....what does the temp gauge show?
TBH the photo doesn't look bad at all....but the videos do !!

Oh and to add, took the thermostat housing off and guess what

no thermostat...

I'd suggest giving it a good flushing with all that in there stick new thermostat in there and give it another compression test after putting fresh coolant in, but im no mechanic.. thats just what i'd do

compressions look fine but they don't tell if the HG's gone ..
Water in filler neck just looks like a bit of rust and crap...not oil emulsion...
But probably the stat's been taken out for a reason....to minimise overheating perhaps....
Go back to basics before fearing the worst !
What do you get on the temp gauge when the engine's hot?
Are the fans cutting in at that time ? have a look. take the cap/dip pipe out of the reservoir and dangle it over the wing and watch what happens when the engine gets hot
Is the rad cap holding ? feel for pressure in the hoses
If all looks fine the only real way forwards is a chemical 'sniffer' test to see if combustion gasses are going into the cooling water which means HG gone...
Shouldn't cost much to have that done

Mines just been tested for hgf mate

get a jug of water pull out the pipe from the overflow tank pop it into the jug of water block of the overflow pipe from that one and start the engine (or start it before you put it in...


If it starts blowing a lot of bubbles in the jug it's the dreaded hgf or should I say

Just found oil in my filler cap.... not happy!

Just recently had a new front rad and water pump, which was 2 lots of flushing of coolant and new coolant.

Now i have oil/dirty stuff in the top of my filler cap, after some good bit of boosting yesterday, car pulls fine, fully bleed not losing coolant, had the thermostat drop a 1/4 way on the 1st full boost but think that was just the thermostat opening.

Think my HG could be gone aswell now? Not getting bubbles in filler neck on cold start

Edit: looks like it its just some sealing compound that Nathan used around the water pump.
