New Owner from Kent

Post by pbradburn »

Hi everyone.

I picked up a mk1a in red earlier this week. Its completely standard.

Need to do a little bit to tidy up and has some of the usual rust issues.

Looking for some bits - driver wing, number plate panel, new side skirt rubbers, plastic trims and rear bumper. Just to tidy up.

I spent 4 hours cleaning it, and its come up well. I also replaced the number plates to make it tidier :-)

See some of you around?

Welcome the club, you'll find alot of information and help here. Might be worth amending your profile to put up where you are in Kent so locals may be able to help.

Driver wing - don't bother second hand, it will be rusty. Best bet is new from Toyota (Approximately £110 inc VAT) or a fibreglass one (no rust) from Honeybourne Mouldings (around £80 inc delivery).

Is it rear number plate panel you refer to? If so then I have one in my loft (from memory) yours for free.

Side skirts - my advice, which varies with other peoples. Leave them off. The rubbers are never very good and they just hold water behind them rusting your sills. If they are already off the car then leave them off.

Rear bumper, try the for sale section. Do check your bumper bar as well.

Plastic trims? Which plastic trims?

What year is the car?

Is it an early MK1a?

Or a later one where the bumpers are colour coded? I'm guessing later if it's got side skirts.

Oh and pics?

I had a 1986 MK1a which was like this when I got it:

And like this when I finished:

(made to look like an early 1985 car which I preferred).

Hi guys. Thanks for the tips. And yes that would be brilliant the rear panel. Min is in a state. Someone painted it with brushes. A mess!

I'm in pluckley near ashford. Loving the mr2. It's a 1986 D plate with the colour coded bumPers. I really like the black bumpers. Look cool!

Keep posting. You only need 15 to start putting pics up

If your a chatterbox like me you'll soon have enough posts :)

You also need an external host site such as Photobucket

Brilliant. Almost there then. I have put them on photo bucket. I'll have to get some higher rss photos but these should do for now. Hope I can post tonight!

I have a plain black centre panel for the MK1 in my garage now.
Send me a PM and we'll sort out about getting it across to you.
Let me know if there is anything else you need, I may have it.

Have got a couple of Regal Racers coming - I have two good ones already, so will get those transferred to the cheap and excellent condition mk1 alloys that i picked up and the new ones put on too. I love the tread pattern ;-)

Sounds like TDF's to me!

I'm not sure buying tyres on the look of the tread pattern is a great idea!

WTF are 'Toto Prizes'?

I see those Regal TDF's are very, very cheap at around £30 a tyre!
