Shame.

It's no biggie to put refurbed calipers on, providing you know how to bleed the brakes.

To do the job right you should change both the calipers on one axle, both rear or both front or you will have a good chance of the brakes being out of balance

Hmm, I was making an assumption that he wouldn't dream of just changing one side, which is what (thinking about it) I bet has happenned.

Hate rear MK1 brakes, crap design. :-:

Would probably be worse if just one front replaced though

If "old" pads re-used & other caliper working perfectly it would probably pull up straight I think

I swapped one of my rear caplipers with a spare and used old pads worked fine balanced well enough to pass.

ok so i got the caliper fitted and new handbrake cable then re-MOT'd but still failed on the parking break test with the same brake not working enough. now the guy who fitted it thinks i could have been sold a faulty caliper.
now my knowledge of how brakes work is very limited but it certianly looked shiny and new. and cost enough. what might he have done wrong fitting it? what else might be the problem?
ive no idea what the units of measurement are for the breaking in the test but the "left side is an acceptable 180 where the new caliper is measuring 30". which is basically the same problem as before, just im now alot more out of pocket. excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject, gotta start somewhere right. what can actually go wrong with a caliper?

Check the cable going to that caliper, and that the bellcrank connecting the two caliper cables to the front handbrake cable is free to pivot
