How to plug A/C in an MR2 without aircon

Post by smoke »

Hi there,
I'm looking at my second MR2 mkII.
I'm considering having the aircon but I keep on finding car without (mostly Rev2, namely). The only one with it are pricey. :|
Is it feasible to retrofit an A/C?

I'm trying to have an idea of the spares/effort needed (if possible) to make a comparison.

compressor, evaporator but what about the pulley? :?:

Thanks
Smoke

alot of imports (turbos and NA's) have it already fitted if you havent yet bought the car

from memory you'd need

the condensor rad
the aircon matrix thingy in between the heater blower and the heater box, aircon equipped heater controls (as far as i knoww these are all electrically controlled as opposed to the cable operated non aircon ones) all the pipes from the front of the car and under the fuel tank
the compressor - the crank pulley will already be there for the aircon compressor belt (certainly has been on all the non aircon cars i have seen)

probably cheaper and less grief to buy an ice lolly every day

It'd be alot of hassle!

Definately buy a car with it already fitted if possible.

Agree with Greeny, dont even think about it, major hassle and any rad you do get your hands on will fall to dust as you fit it, and good 2nd hand ones are v v rare! New theyre £300 and thats aftermarket. A lot of bits need fitting and the dash may even have to come out to do it!

Well, to give you an idea (please do not scream :D ),
here in the LHD world we have (N/A):

Rev 2 with A/C 5000

Rev 2 without 3500

Crazy, isn'it? The diff is a good Rev 4 in UK
