Indicator not working - Any Ideas?

Post by Boudicca »

MR2 MK2 1991 Rev1 non-Turbo

Hi Everyone,

Just been out in the car - And noticed when turning Right, the indictors flashed rapidly.

Thought it was a blown bulb - but it's not. (swapped the bulbs from the working Left side but the problem continued.)

symptoms:
When the indicator is put to Right turn - rapid flashing on instrument panel,
Front right indicator and right side wing repeater not working - Right back indicator flashing rapidly.

Hazard warning lights working at normal speed EXCEPT for the front Right and Right front wing repeater...

Has anyone experienced this? or does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this?

Thank in advance for any help.

Yes, I had this. Remove the relay from the drivers side footwell and clean the terminals, worked a treat on mine and no problems since.

Other than that replace the relay [after you have tested with a replacement].

This may help http://mr2oc.co.uk/forums/mk2/indicator ... 39777.html

Thanks John and Laura,
Took it out last-night and cleaned contacts - but still no joy...

I've just purchased a secondhand one from ebay - will let you know if this does the trick...

Thank you for your advice.

Hi rover19376 -Thanks for the prompt reply.

When the problem originally happened - I did clean all the contacts.
And the lights are all original - NO after market.

I just don't know what else it could be?

A question for everyone!

Does anyone have any more suggestions? the front right quarter of the cars indicators are not working.

* please read thread for the whole story...

Anyone every suffered this? anyone have any more suggestions..?
Anyone know how to test Flasher unit?

ps. anyone got a Flasher unit for sale?

Thanks

Have a look under the front wings to see if you got any bare cables touching the chassis etc anything out of the ordinary. I have this problem (very rarely and intermittent, just starts to flash faster on the left side), I wiggled the cables, havent looked at the flasher unit yet.

Hey cvega666,

When the problem first happened, I did take off the wheel and removed the plastic arch - I had a good look around but found nothing that looked damaged.

I'll have another look! maybe I missed something.

The thing that confusing me, is when I put in another secondhand flasher relay - It worked! for a while.

I'l take your advise and have another look under the arch...
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread.
Brian

In the meantime if anyone has had an experience similar to this - please post a message - it's driving me insane...

p.s. also still on the look out for a replacement flasher relay. Anyone?
*Flash Relay purchased from IMOC member.

Thought it only right to finalise the thread.

I finally found the problem...
Went out the other day and my girlfriend drove - I noticed the indicators worked!

I asked her what she had done? and she had adjusted the steering wheel (TILT)

Then I realised it must be connections in the steering column - and sure enough that was it - so all indicators working as normal now...

Thanks to everyone for their help.
