[Mk2] [NA] Morning Stalling

Post by spencersanford »

Hi guys, newbie here!

Just bought a 2.0 GT 1997.
Only issue with it is stalling in the morning.

If I start it up, it has an erratic idle, dipping up and down, if I rev it, it rises, then dies. I need to hold it at around 2k rpm for 30 seconds then it is fine.

Any ideas?
I think it needs a good service as it has been stood for some time, but didn't know if there is a common fault?

Any help appreciated, many thanks.

could be lots of things.
Idle control valve need cleaning/replacing.
Air filter clogged.
fuel filter clogged.
coolant temp sensor (if an NA has one..not too sure)

Are the symptoms gone when its fully warm?

A good service is a must though.
my mates alfa has exactly the same thing, he hasnt serviced it in 5 years apart from 1 oil change! ](*,)

dirty / sticky / faulty ISCV most likely culprit

would align the TPS while your at it too :thumleft:

Thanks for the suggestions!

Once warm it does not stall, however it does idle slightly high, between 1200-1400rpm.

Also now the clutch system develops an air leak :D
