[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 2 Power steering ECU

Post by bobhatton »

Anyone have any info on how this ecu works. I want to change to a ST205 engine ecu but I understand the power steering then will not work, so I have to find out what to do to get it woking again.

There's 2 relevant signals between the engine ECU and the power steering ECU, they are PS & PSCT. As far a I know neither of these signals exist on the ST205 ECU.

PSCT is an output from the engine ECU to turn on the power steering. The ECU turns on the power steering when the engine is running but not when the engine is starting . Disconnecting this signal from the engine ECU connector will apparently make the power steering run any time the ignition is on.

PS is an output from the power steering ECU to request that the engine ECU increases the idle speed to handle the extra electrical load caused by turning the steering.

That's how rev3 power steering works anyway...

Anyone got a manual with the wiring diagram for the steering ECU, I may be able to just fit a relay that puts a signel to the ecu when the engine is running.

Do a google search for "MR2_SW_1993_ELECTRICALWIRINGDIAGRAMS.zip"
They're a set of PDFs for a US '93 MR2.

I'm looking at doing the same thing. I.e trying to wire in a simple relay to turn the power steering pump 'on', only after the engine is started.

Any idea's what ECU wire I could attach the relay to as a trigger wire? I'm trying to make it all concealed in the ECU case, hence I need a ECU wire for my trigger of the power steering relay.

Cheers!
