[Mk2] [NA] 96,000 miles need to do the cambelt

Post by billyboy1990 »

when i bought the car 3 years ago i planned to do the cam belt but due to insurance issues it was just to expensive so my mr2 was off the road!

also there is a very irritating squeaking noise coming from the engine bay when its cold as i rev the squeak increases and then after a few minutes it stops is the FAN belt making this noise?

just been looking about on the net and found this but it seems a bit cheap considering every other kit I found was about £120.

what ya think ?

I can't open the link but it says 3sfe - that's for old old rev1 only. Make sure you have got the right kit for your car...

Squeaky noise from the engine when cold is usually alternator belt / alternator starting to seize - there is no fan belt.

Factory cam belts are approx. £40.

A "kit" might include idler pulleys or tensioner as well as the belt. Most "kits" are not genuine parts, so look carefully and make sure you know what you're getting.

You might struggle to find a fan on the MR2 but the alternator belt will squeal if it's old / slack. Belts are cheap enough from Toyota. I can only recommend an OEM replacement cam belt plus tensioner. Alternator belt you can get from anywhere. I usually always get my service kits from Rogue.
