coolant

Post by StealthyGecko »

just wondering if there is a "best" coolant to have for an NA MR2?

or is the Halfords own stuff good enough

and also how much coolant do I need because I've noticed that its sold mixed and concentrated.

TIA.

Toyota recommend their own 'forlife' red coolant, think I'm right in saying that other stuff comes pink (with anti corrosion in) and blue (without).

I just used the regular pink stuff instead of the Toyota stuff, it also takes a lot of coolant, if I remember correctly it's about 13 litres...

yeah needs just over 13 litres i personally only use the toyota branded stuff as ts what its designed for. The others have a tendancy to kill the waterpump and other various parts. The toyota forlife is also longer lasting so in the end probably works out as cost effective. Another advantage is that the toyota stuff is premixed so no messing about or incorrect mixing ratio. You are supposed to mix with distilled water again due to the corrosion issues if not using geniune.

4-life changed name a couple of years ago to Long Life -my dealership has it a little under £20 per tub last time I got some.

There's no Toyota workshop manuals that I have which say to use it. Any decent additive with corrosion inhibitor will be fine. Pre mixed or mix yourself to the right ratio should be fine.

Ah so theres nowhere I can order it from online? as I have no way of getting to the nearest Toyota dealership to pick some up, and would be so much easier if I could get it delivered.
