[Mk2] [NA] Spare key

Post by smoke »

Hi there,
I need your help...
I've only one key for my MR2.
Mine is a 1996 Rev 4 (one of the first ones, accordingly to the chassis number).
My key looks exactly like this one: www.carkeyhelp.co.uk/products/Toyota-MR ... 41RAT.html.

I've got a question:
I've got a led blinking red in the dashboard (labeled "SECURITY").
Thanks to that I think I got a chipped key.
May I have some confirmation?
Does the chipped version start with Rev 4?

Just to order the right one...

The REV 4's and some REV 3's have a Immobiliser and transponder. They are all linked to the ECU, etc and the key would be a nightmare to source and get coded.

Not a complete nightmare if it's a UK car, Toyota can do it.

Thanks.
And how can you tell?
Is the "SECURITY" led a good proof?

I've seen behind the stereo a box labelled TVSS II...

Toyota confirmed I have an immo key.
Moreover the OEM key is not so expensive: 30GBP.
So I 'll follow your advice: Toyota!

Was this just for the key or with transponder and programming?

If so - which one? !

Just a chipped key (and then 30' of work to programming).
But I'm still fighting...

Most keys can be reprogrammed yourself, just need to know the correct procedure, usually invloves ign on and off multiple times etc. I've done my wives Primera a fair few time...

I've found two on ebay uk,
one (for mkIII) on a site of a spare key manufacturer,
two on http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/
If it is around 20euro I'll pay for it.
I've already spent a week end to get the key code... ](*,)
