MR 2 back in the family

Post by skittles »

After around 5 years without an mr2 and 6 months of searches i have finally been reunited with an old friend :D however i was hoping my first post since was on a more pleasant note............... insurance , holy **** . I currently drive an 08 Focus ST and have 10 years NCB (everyday car) and thats "only" 450 nicker . i thought getting insurance for the mr2 would be a doddle but its proving to be anything but. Maybe its me being niave but i was hoping to get insured for a couple hundred quid .... i have been refused (from my current insurers) and have been quoted prices ranging from 400 quid to 9000 quid !!! so i thot maybe some of u guys could advise me on the best route to take and companies to get in touch with, should i insure seperatly , go for multi car, limited use , limited miles ...... i dunno wots gony give me best value for my cash ??? anyway once the better weather arrives i will hopefully post some decent pics and detail the car to make her look her best 8)

Welcome back.

On the insurance side, you need to bare in mind that it's RWD drive and a car which has a bad claims/loss ratio. Also, bare in mind that insurance rates have typically risen by 30%-40% is the last 12 months.

You may qualify for a classic scheme though, have a look in the 'trader feedback' section, there is a member who recently insured his Mk2 on a classic policy (not something my company offer). You need to insure the car for your situation so if you are doing limited mileage then yes do make this clear!

Also, remember that NCB can only be used on one car at a time.
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

Try Sureterm for classic car insurance, they don't require no claims and you don't earn nay on the Mr2 but it is on 200 quid a year with 5000 limited mileage for me.

I tried a quote with sureterm a few days back as my younger friend has an RS Cosworth escort insured on classic with them for £149 FC, mine however came in at just under £700 haha, think I can do better than that...
visual anarchy since 1990...
