MR2 in for mot
failed mot on emissions x10 times
mot needs engine service and stat
engine service done, new stat wrong
service done stat reordered.
new stat stil wrong, adapter made for original stat, now fits ok.
emissions still high but near limit, needs cat
dropped off cat and original system.
went to fit original system but cat is collapsed.
ordered new cat.
took 5 days to arrive.
new cat not right ,
ended up cutting inards out of similar cat and welding into MR cat.
Should be in for mot on Sat, fingers crossed!

That blows! Cant upto and inc early '95s run without a Cat for MOT if engine is in good state of tune? Could also try running a tank of Vpower before test, might drop emissions a bit.

Think i'll take you up on that mate next year. I was offered a definite pass this time but thought i'd get route cause sorted as it was 10X the limit.

GOOD NEWS had a phone call today to say it's passed (just) picking it up tomorrow after about a month apart.

Cost is £140 for cat transplant work.
£141 for full engine service
£plus labour, i reckon about £150-£200
So looking at a bill of £391-£441 ish

Surely if your car was 10 times Over the emissions limit even without the cat it means that something else has gone wrong? Lambda sensor or some such?

Well, picked it up this morning.
Bill came to £541.00
That was with vat and labour to do the following.

Change thermostat that i supplied. Refill coolant.
Change gearbox oil that i supplied.
Full engine service using their parts.
Smoke test on system to see if there were any air leaks on the system.
Remove de-cat, open up my cat and transplant in new inards and weld back up. ( I did see that mine had collapsed )
Refit cat and re-MOT.

VOSA can visit me all day long mate they wont find me doin anything illegal, if thats what your insinuating and yes its open interpretation but I honestly dont care who`s reading it or how they are reading it, the guys car will pass its emissions if he bring it me.

Emission's are the single biggest joke/insult in moting history.

Glad I have a comprehensive understanding of how the emission test work's and how loop hole's are available.

ie- If you can prove the car is a motorsport prepped car the emission's are nigh on de tested, a nice headed letter from a motorsport tuner can solve such issue's.
