[Mk2] [Turbo] which bolt would I need?

Post by bambam79 »

Hi everyone,

I recently lost one of the four bolts that hold the turbo to the manifold. I think they are some sort of M10 with some 1.25 pitch I think? I don't have the exact dimensions, sorry.

One of the bolts was changed by the preowner to a screw. He also bored the original thread a little to fit this screw. It has some strange around 11mm major diameter. Unfortunately I lost exactly this particular screw :-/

As I am from Germany I am not very used to the british thread patterns.

Is there any thread layout that has nearly the same pitch as the original Toyota bolts but is around 1mm thicker than this? I found some 7/16" ones, but there are BSF, UNF, BSW... I don't know wich one to buy. Can somebody help me out?

It should have around 1.25mm pitch (as this is the toyota one and I held the former screw (I unfortunately lost) right on to the original bolt and it had the same pitch (maybe 0.01mm more or less, but well...) It was thinner than the M12 and thicker than the M10.... so I measued it with my (of course metric) calliper and got around 11mm.

As I don't have this screw anymore I unfortunately cannot measure anything else and I can hardly measure the manifold from the underside as I very unwillingly take the whole turbo out just to have a better access to the manifold.

So if anybody knows what bolt I would need and where I can buy one, it would be very great.

Thank you very much in advance

Try an M11 bolt? that'll have an 11mm diameter but i couldn't tell you the pitch depth off the top of my head. Halfords sell packs of assorted bolts etc that should have M10, M11, M12 etc and one could fit perfectly

Do you have Halfords in Germany?

The turbo is held to the manifold (out of the factory) by 4 nuts, and the nuts go onto studs that screw into the manifold. If someone has changed from stock, I'd say your best bet is trial and error, and like Border says, buy a pack of nuts/bolts, and try each one.
